If you are an educator or parent with a struggling student, you might feel intimidated by all the information out there and frustrated figuring out where to start. You may be wondering:
- Why do some students read with ease whilst others struggle so much?
- My child has such good ideas but why is it so hard for them to get their ideas on paper?
- Why does my child not understand what they have read?
- Why does my child do anything to avoid reading and/or writing?
I knew I had a passion for literacy teaching after more than a decade of teaching students who were struggling with literacy, had additional needs, or learning difficulties. I learnt a lot from my students and their needs, but I wanted to dig deeper, to understand the processes of reading and writing and where it could go wrong so that I could be a more effective teacher.
Now that I have gained a Master’s degree in Literacy Learning and Literacy Difficulties, parents and teachers come to me all the time for tips and strategies to help their struggling students. In fact, I’ve been asked about it so often that I decided to create this course to share with you.
Here's what we'll cover.
By the end of this course you will be able to pinpoint the specific needs of your students and strategies to address those needs so that you feel better equipped to support them more effectively. You will gain a deeper understanding of the processes involved in learning to read and write. You will enhance your knowledge, understanding and awareness of the learning challenges faced by your students with additional needs. You will learn holistic, multi-sensory approaches to help ameliorate literacy difficulties. Lastly, we will share effective, appropriate and evidence-based teaching strategies that work.
